Citizens who were victimized by investing in the Caprice Gold Bayrampaşa project of Fadıl Akgündüz, publicly known as "Jet Fadıl," held a protest in front of the construction as part of an 11-year rights struggle. Members of the Caprice Gold Investors Association demanded that the building be expropriated by the state. The victims' lawyer, Süha Cansız, stated that Akgündüz had received a prison sentence of 2,504 years, while an investor said, "I have lost everything here," and described the victimization he experienced.

Investors of the Caprice Gold project located in Bayrampaşa, Istanbul, gathered in front of the construction site to demand redress for their grievances that have continued for years. At the protest attended by members of the Caprice Gold Investors Association, citizens who stated that they could not receive the equivalent of the money they invested in the project called out to the authorities. The investors demanded that the building be expropriated by the state and that their grievance be brought to an end.

THEY HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR 11 YEARS TO GET THEIR RIGHTS

The victims' lawyer, Süha Cansız, said that for 11 years the investors have both followed the legal processes and struggled to protect the building. Stating that they filed many lawsuits during this process, Cansız said they won the title deed cancellation cases regarding immovable properties that Fadıl Akgündüz transferred in the names of others.

Cansız said, “For 11 years, we have worked shoulder to shoulder here to preserve and defend this building as if it were a fortress. At the same time, by carrying the legal struggle to the end, we thwarted all the schemes set up by Jet Fadıl and protected our building. We filed and won title deed cancellation cases regarding the properties he registered in other people's names by smuggling the assets.”

“WE FOUGHT FOR JET FADIL TO RECEIVE A PRISON SENTENCE OF 2,504 YEARS”

Explaining that the judicial process spanned many years, lawyer Süha Cansız said they also fought to ensure that the cases did not fall under the statute of limitations. Referring to the prison sentence handed down to Fadıl Akgündüz, Cansız used the following statements:

“At the beginning, in the long-lasting trial processes in the Turkish judicial system over the years, we prevented those who committed crimes from benefiting from the statute of limitations and being acquitted. We fought for Jet Fadıl to receive a prison sentence of 2,504 years, and he received this sentence. He is currently being held in detention.”

“I HAVE LOST EVERYTHING HERE”

Talip Metehanoğlu, one of the victims who invested in the project, described the financial loss he suffered and asked the authorities for a solution. Stating that he lost all his savings due to the investment, Metehanoğlu said that the expropriation of the building by the state is important in terms of redressing the grievances.

Metehanoğlu said, “No matter what is offered, we have never sat at any account with them. However, we want this place to be expropriated by the state. I have lost everything here.”

CALL FROM VICTIMS TO THE STATE FOR EXPROPRIATION

Members of the Caprice Gold Investors Association stated that despite the legal struggle that has continued for years, their grievances have not yet been redressed and expressed that they expect a solution. At the protest held in front of the construction site, the demand for the expropriation of the building was once again brought to the agenda. The investors stated that they will continue their struggle to recover the savings they invested in the project.
