Mehmet Kurt (70), who has been doing weight training and boxing in ANKARA for 22 years, said that thanks to sports he stopped the 7 medications he used for diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Mehmet Kurt, who works in the furniture sector, did taekwondo for a while in his youth and then took a break from sports due to his working life. Years later, at the age of 48, Kurt turned back to sports and started boxing. Kurt, who has been boxing regularly for 22 years, also does 1.5 hours of weight training every day. Kurt, who sometimes also walks and does yoga, changed his eating habits along with sports. Despite his advanced age, Kurt does weight training in the morning and boxing training in the evening, and said that thanks to sports he stopped the 7 medications he used for ailments such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
HE QUIT BREAD AND BULGUR
Mehmet Kurt said that when he took a long break from sports in his youth for various reasons, various ailments appeared, and he turned back to sports during such a period, and said: "After I started boxing, I stopped 7 medications. I had diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol. I had mild psoriasis at times. I had shingles. None of these remain now. I reset them to zero. Along with sports, I also changed my eating habits. Boxing plus nutrition. I left no stone unturned. At hospitals they said, 'You will get along like siblings with these medications.' I did not accept that. I researched. I quit bread. I quit bulgur pilaf. I do not eat anything packaged. I walked a lot. I sweated a lot. Along with these, I discovered yoga, I discovered my chakras," he said.
WEIGHTS IN THE MORNING, BOXING IN THE EVENING
Kurt, stating that he starts the day early and does two workouts during the day, said: "I wake up around 5:00 a.m. Around 10:30 I do weight training for 1.5 hours. I also box in the evening. I do two workouts. I do not count walks. I do the workout properly. I do not do fake workouts, looking at my phone, listening to music in my ear. Let me give young people an example. When I look at my peers, I saw muscle wasting. I saw them wearing very thick glasses. When we stand side by side, they have nothing to do with me. This is also about nutrition. I forgot the way to the doctor. No one believes I am 70 years old," he said.
I FEEL LIKE I AM 34-35 YEARS OLD
Kurt, who advised young people to definitely do sports, said: "There must definitely be a sport in everyone's life. They can swim, play tennis, ride horses. As long as they do sports. I feel like I am 34-35 years old. I can be happy by buying a pair of shoes. I can feel excitement. I get excited while preparing my sports bag. For all these years, I still put on socks without losing that excitement. When I buy new socks, I can enjoy it. Why do people let themselves go?" he said.
