At least 80 irregular migrants are presumed dead after a boat that departed from the coast of Gambia in Africa and was bound for Spain's southwestern Canary Islands sank.
A major tragedy occurred when a boat carrying 128 irregular migrants from Gambia sank approximately 120 kilometers off the Canary Islands. While 45 people were rescued, the lifeless bodies of 5 people were recovered. It is estimated that at least 80 people who are missing have lost their lives.

According to a report by the Spanish official news agency EFE, citing Coast Guard sources, the boat sank approximately 120 kilometers off the Canary Islands 26 days after departing from Gambia with 128 people on board.
45 PEOPLE RESCUED
Coast Guard teams announced that 45 irregular migrants from the boat were rescued by a ship named "Guardamar Urania" passing through the area at midnight on September 2.
AT LEAST 80 PEOPLE ARE ESTIMATED TO HAVE DIED
It was stated that search efforts were continuing with difficulty due to adverse sea conditions, and so far, the lifeless bodies of 5 people have been recovered.
It is estimated that at least 80 of the missing migrants from the boat have lost their lives.
THERE WERE ALSO 4 WOMEN AND 1 BABY ON THE BOAT
The Spanish non-governmental organization Caminando Fronteras had previously warned that the boat had departed from the Gambian coast on August 7 with 128 migrants, including 4 women and 1 baby.
