With the regulation that came into effect in Spain, the mandatory periodic inspection requirement for historic vehicles that have reached 60 years of age has been ended. Vehicles with historic vehicle status that were first registered in 1966 or earlier will no longer have to undergo regular technical inspection. In addition, these vehicles have been granted permission to circulate in low-emission zones for up to 96 days per year.

Inspection rules affecting classic car owners in Spain have changed. Under the Historic Vehicles Regulation approved by the Council of Ministers, the periodic technical inspection requirement applied to vehicles over a certain age has been removed.

IT COVERS VEHICLES REGISTERED IN 1966 AND EARLIER

According to the new regulation, vehicles over 60 years old and holding historic vehicle status will be exempt from mandatory technical inspection.

Thus, owners of classic cars first registered in 1966 or earlier will no longer have to have periodic inspections carried out.

The exemption will not apply only to cars. Mopeds with historic status will also be considered within the scope of the application.

Vehicle owners will be able to have safety checks carried out voluntarily, even if there is no obligation.

96-DAY ENTRY PERMIT FOR LOW-EMISSION ZONES

The regulation also foresees changes to restrictions on the use of historic vehicles in urban areas.

In low-emission zones where the entry of old vehicles is restricted due to exhaust emissions, historic vehicles will be allowed to be used for up to 96 days a year.

In this way, classic car owners will also be able to enter environmental protection zones within the specified time limit.

VALID ONLY IN SPAIN

The inspection exemption does not constitute a general decision applicable to all vehicles in Europe. The application can benefit vehicles that meet historic vehicle status in Spain.
