Comprehensive changes to the mandatory conscription system have come into effect in Denmark. The first group of conscripts has reported to the barracks following the extension of service from 4 months to 11 months. Under the new model, soldiers will also participate in operational duties after basic training.

1600 YOUNG PEOPLE REPORTED
According to the news from DR, which broadcasts in Denmark, 1600 young people will fulfill their compulsory military service, previously 4 months, for 11 months as part of the practice that started today.
Under the new system, after basic training, soldiers will take part in operational service in the army's real duties for a period of 6 months.
"I AM READY TO GO TO WAR FOR MY COUNTRY"
Joy Berg, a 20-year-old who began her military service at the barracks in Aalborg, Denmark, under the new compulsory military service practice, said she was excitedly waiting to put on her new uniform and was ready to take on operational duties.
Berg stated that the 11-month service period would provide her with the opportunity to get to know the army better and build stronger friendships, emphasizing that she was ready to defend her country.
To the question "Are you ready to go to war for your country?", Berg replied, "Yes, that's what we're here for, but if my mom asks, no."
THE REASON IS THE INCREASING WAR RISK IN NORTHERN EUROPE
Jeppe Plenge Trautner, an external lecturer in European security and defense policies at Aalborg University, stated that with the transition from 4-month compulsory military service to the 11-month system, not only individual soldiers but also military units that can be deployed to war in a short time will be trained.
Trautner expressed that it was sad that the new practice was implemented due to the increasing war risk in Northern Europe.
GENDER DISCRIMINATION IS NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
Within the framework of the new system, regardless of gender, those who turn 18 will be called to the Defense Day, where young people are informed about the military service process and their suitability is assessed.
