According to the information obtained, gunshots were heard in front of the hotel where Dilan and Engin Polat, a couple who were in the region for a holiday, were staying. Can Polat (37), who is Engin Polat's cousin and also served as the couple's bodyguard, was attacked with a firearm while getting into his vehicle to leave the hotel. Polat, seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by health teams dispatched to the scene. Despite all interventions by doctors, Polat succumbed to his injuries.

A funeral ceremony for Can Polat was held at the Küçükbakkalköy Central Mosque in Ataşehir after the noon prayer. Engin Polat, Dilan Polat, and family members attended the ceremony.
