The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Furkan Coşkun on the charge of 'intentional killing'; he was allegedly beaten in the garden of his apartment building in Mersin on October 9, 2016, and taken away in a vehicle, and no news has been received from him since that day. Seven of the nine suspects were referred to the courthouse; four people, including E.K., who is in prison, were arrested.
Within the scope of an investigation reopened by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the charge of 'premeditated murder' concerning a young man alleged to have been missing after being abducted 10 years ago, 4 suspects were arrested.
HE WAS TAKEN BY FORCE FROM AN APARTMENT GARDEN
According to the allegation, on October 9, 2016, S.G. and E.K. came up to Furkan Coşkun (20), who was sitting in the garden of the apartment building where his home was located on 39727 Street, Akdeniz Neighborhood of Mezitli district. The individuals, who argued, beat Coşkun, took him outside the complex, put him in a vehicle and drove away. Following the complaint of the family, who had not heard from their child since that day, teams from the Public Security Branch of the Provincial Police Department took action and, after examining the security camera footage of the complex, detained 2 individuals. The young man's mobile phone was found on the suspects. It was learned that in their statements at the police station, the suspects said that they took Coşkun, whom they had abducted, to a wooded area and that while they continued to beat him there, he escaped from their hands and ran away. In line with the suspects' statements, police and AKUT teams searching the wooded area could not find any trace of the young man. Despite searches lasting for days, the person could not be found, and 2 suspects were caught and arrested.
MURDER INVESTIGATION 10 YEARS LATER
Although 10 years had passed, the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office took action regarding Furkan Coşkun, who was alleged to be missing but no evidence whatsoever could be found that he was alive, and launched an investigation on the charge of 'premeditated murder'. Within the scope of the investigation, 9 individuals were identified, and it was determined that suspect E.K. participated in a program broadcast on a social media platform on May 7, 2022, and alleged that Furkan Coşkun, who resided in the same neighborhood, made inappropriate remarks about him and his family. It also emerged that the suspect stated that for this reason they warned and beat Coşkun, but that they had no information about what happened to him afterward. Within the scope of the investigation, into which this information was also added to the file, 6 suspects were caught in an operation, while proceedings were also initiated against 3 individuals in prison.
4 PEOPLE ARRESTED
Of a total of 9 suspects, 7 were referred to the Mersin Courthouse after procedures at the police station and brought before the duty court. This time, arrest warrants were also issued for suspects İ.B., S.G. and G.Ç., as well as E.K., one of the convicts in prison, within the scope of the 'premeditated murder' investigation. Judicial control measures were applied to suspect S.K., while 2 suspects were released.
It was reported that the procedures of 2 individuals are ongoing, that the investigation, which turned from a missing person case into a murder case with 4 arrests, is being conducted meticulously, and that the number of suspects may increase.
