Mustafa Bozbey, who was suspended from his duty as the Metropolitan Mayor of Bursa following his arrest, resigned from the CHP.
Mustafa Bozbey, the Mayor of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, who was arrested and suspended from duty as part of an investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, announced that he has resigned from the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Mustafa Bozbey, who was arrested on serious charges including "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes," "bribery," "laundering of property values derived from crime," and "causing zoning pollution" within the framework of the ongoing legal process, stated in a written public statement from prison that he has left his CHP membership.
"I DO NOT WANT THE PROCESS TO REMAIN IN THE SHADOW OF POLITICAL CALCULATIONS"
In his written statement shared via his social media account, Bozbey stated that he regards his decision not as a political maneuver but as a requirement of his sense of responsibility.
Firmly denying the charges against him in his statement, Bozbey used the following expressions: "I do not want this legal process, which is based on slanders and lies against me, to remain in the shadow of any political calculation. I see this decision not as a political maneuver, but as a responsibility that I believe is right under the circumstances I am in... For years, even for most of my life, I have been involved in politics within the Republican People's Party with belief and struggle. However, today, I believe that an environment where evaluations about me are discussed publicly by party executives is not right for the well-being of the ongoing legal process. Therefore, I have decided to resign from my membership in the Republican People's Party."
"I ENTRUST MYSELF TO TRUTH AND JUSTICE"
Emphasizing that he respects the will that the people of Bursa demonstrated at the ballot box and that he will continue his struggle before the law, Mustafa Bozbey concluded his message with the following words: "I do not accept the accusations against me. I believe that the truth and justice will emerge before the law, independent of political evaluations. Today, I also entrust myself to that truth and justice. I will always continue to defend the rights, law, and future of Bursa and its people. We will meet again soon."
