Seismologist Naci Görür evaluated the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the city of Erbil, Iraq, and was also felt in Hakkari. Görür stated, "In the February 6 earthquakes, this zone was very compressed between the Eastern Anatolia and the Arabian Plate. It is a zone where we expect more earthquakes."

After the earthquake, citizens in Yüksekova rushed into the streets. Following the earthquake, many houses in Yüksekova developed cracks. Announcements regarding the earthquake were made from the district's mosques, stating that the mosques would remain open for citizens.
Citizens in Yeşiltaş village waited outside by lighting a fire in front of their homes.

Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a statement on his social media account after the earthquake. In his post, Görür stated:
"An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred in Dilekli-Yüksekova/Hakkari. This earthquake is within the Bitlis-Zagros Compression Zone. It is an earthquake we expected. In the earthquakes of February 6, this zone was very tense between the Eastern Anatolia and the Arabian Plate. We expect more earthquakes in this zone. Get well soon, with love."
