The Israeli press reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the "arrest warrant" that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has not yet issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, "by mistake". THEY CONDEMNED THE ARREST WARRANT OF THE ICC BEFORE IT WAS ISSUEDAccording to Haaretz newspaper, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning the international arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Gallant, even though no decision has been made by the ICC. The statement, which was published on the ministry's website and shared on social media accounts, was quickly removed. PREPARED STATEMENTThe statement said, "Israel rejects the absurd and disgraceful decision of the ICC to issue an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant." An unnamed official from the ministry stated to Haaretz that the statement was shared by mistake, but the condemnation statement was prepared in advance due to the "preparation" for the issuance of the arrest warrant. The court has been evaluating the issue of issuing an arrest warrant against Netanyahu, Gallant, and Hamas Political Bureau Chief Yahya Sinwar for the past 4 months upon the request of the Chief Prosecutor of the ICC, Karim Khan. INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT HAS NOT YET ANNOUNCED ITS DECISIONHowever, no decision has been made by the ICC regarding these individuals. It is thought that the possible arrest warrant by the ICC, if issued during Netanyahu's visit to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly at the end of September, could affect his travel plans. It is reported that Netanyahu's plane will not be able to make a stopover in ICC member countries during his trip to the United States. Since the United States is not a member of the ICC, even if an arrest warrant is issued against Netanyahu, it does not prevent him from going to the United States. APPLICATION FOR THE ARREST WARRANT OF NETANYAHU AND GALLANTChief Prosecutor Khan announced on May 20 that he had applied for an "arrest warrant" against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Khan stated that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant bear criminal responsibility for "war crimes and crimes against humanity" in the Gaza Strip since October 8, 2023. According to a statement from the ICC, Khan also applied for an "arrest warrant" against Hamas officials Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohammed al-Dayf, in addition to Netanyahu and Gallant. The Israeli press reported on September 10 that Chief Prosecutor Khan had requested the acceleration of the process of issuing an arrest warrant against Netanyahu and Gallant.
