Famous businessman Ali Koç's wife, Nevbahar Koç, opened the doors of their historic Bosphorus mansion to the public in such great detail for the first time on the program of world-renowned interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. The stunning design of the mansion and its spiritual value within the family drew attention.
Businessman Ali Koç's wife Nevbahar Koç opened the doors of her Bosphorus mansion to interior architect Martyn Lawrence Bullard.
The historic mansion, located in one of the most exclusive spots on the Bosphorus, enchanted viewers with its elegant design and grandeur. Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the show's host and one of the world's most prestigious designers, could not hide his admiration the moment he stepped into his close friend Nevbahar Koç's home.
PRAISE FROM THE WORLD-FAMOUS ARCHITECT
Bullard, describing the mansion as "one of the most enchanting and enviable places to live in a big city," also shared a little-known detail about Nevbahar Koç with the audience. Noting that their friendship spans many years, the famous architect said:
"Before Nevbahar got married, in her 20s, she worked as my assistant in Los Angeles. She learned design processes, what works and what doesn't, and design theory from me—and she learned the best. Now she is one of Turkey's most influential philanthropists, a wonderful mother, and an art patron. I am proud of her."
"I WORKED VERY LONG TO BRING THE MANSION TO THIS STATE"
Responding to Bullard's praise by highlighting the significant role design theory has played in her life, Nevbahar Koç spoke about the challenges posed by the mansion's traditional architecture. She outlined her efforts during the decoration process as follows:
"Design is actually a mathematical thing. Learning design theory has helped me greatly throughout my life. This place has a difficult layout architecturally; due to its traditional structure, it consists of one large hall and four small rooms opening into it. I really worked for a very long time to bring this mansion to this state."
Meanwhile, a special painting adorning the mansion's stunning hall, believed to depict Ali Koç and Nevbahar Koç, was among the striking details featured on screen.
A FAMILY HEIRLOOM FROM FATHER-IN-LAW RAHMİ KOÇ
Touching on the historical and emotional value the mansion holds for the Koç family beyond its aesthetic beauty, Nevbahar Koç summarized the importance of the home to her husband Ali Koç with these words:
"This is a true family home where we live with our two children. My husband Ali Koç also grew up in this house. Ali's father Rahmi Koç gave us this house. After we took over the mansion, we modernized it while staying true to its original character. Fortunately, Ali has great taste; he has his own unique style."
