Hyundai Motor Türkiye will strengthen its IONIQ 3 investment with a new battery assembly plant. The facility, located at the brand's Izmit factory, will initially provide employment for more than 300 people. With the new investment totaling 715 million euros, the aim is to strengthen domestic production, while also increasing Türkiye's expertise in electric mobility.

Hyundai Motor Turkey (HMTR), which has been continuing its production in Turkey for approximately 30 years without interruption, will strengthen its IONIQ 3 investment, set to start mass production in August, with a new battery factory. Allocating 55 million euros of the total 715 million euro investment to the battery factory, Hyundai Motor Turkey will combine cells with an automation system together with Hyundai Mobis. With this investment, more than 300 people will be employed in the first phase, and it will also contribute to the know-how needed by the industry in electric vehicle production.

"SINCE 1997..."

Hyundai Motor Turkey Sales, Marketing and After-Sales General Manager Murat Berkel, sharing his views on the new investment, said, 'At our Izmit factory, which is Hyundai's first overseas plant, we have produced 3.3 million vehicles since 1997. Today, as Hyundai Motor Turkey, we are very proud to announce the new battery investment. I believe that this investment, which is very important for both our country and the Turkish automotive industry, will contribute to our brand's growth in Turkey.'

27 THOUSAND VEHICLES TO BE PRODUCED THIS YEAR

Within the scope of the investment, which has reached the final stage, it is planned to produce 27 thousand vehicles this year and over 40 thousand next year. NMC battery cells are sourced from Hungary, while all LFP-type short-range batteries are supplied from China. With the battery investment, the goal is not only to create a strong infrastructure for the IONIQ 3, which will start mass production in August, but also for new electric and hybrid vehicle models in the future, and to support the local supplier industry.

27 ROBOTS WILL BE DEPLOYED

In the battery factory established on a total area of 30,000 square meters, 27 robots will be placed, and packaging will be done without human intervention, ready for vehicle production. The IONIQ 3, Hyundai's second domestic electric model to be brought to Turkey, which contributes to the country's economy and employment, will roll off the assembly lines in August and will be offered for sale in Turkey in September with two different battery and power options.
