The Ministry of National Education (MEB) announced that, in accordance with the new regulations, student uniforms in private schools can be procured under free market conditions without imposing additional financial burdens on parents, just like in public schools.
NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING STUDENT UNIFORMS
According to a written statement from the Ministry, the provisions of the "Regulation on Amendments to the Regulation on the Dress and Attire of School Students Affiliated with the Ministry of National Education," published in the Official Gazette on December 6, 2024, will also apply to private schools other than international private educational institutions and minority schools. Additionally, new provisions regarding student uniforms in private schools were included in the "Regulation on Private Educational Institutions," published in the Official Gazette on January 3.
PARENTS WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE UNIFORMS FROM ANYWHERE THEY CHOOSE
In this context, criteria that will not impose a financial burden on parents will be essential for the procurement of uniforms for students studying in all private schools, including those that have brand licensing agreements. According to the new regulation, parents of students in private schools will be able to procure school uniforms under free market conditions. Parents will not be forced to purchase student uniforms through electronic commerce platforms. Parents facing such pressure can resist and buy uniforms from wherever they wish under free market conditions. On the other hand, parents will not purchase special uniforms that impose financial burdens for use in special days, weeks, and celebrations, both in-class and extracurricular activities.
NO SPECIAL MARKS, PRINTS, OR PATTERNS ON UNIFORMS
Furthermore, when determining school uniforms, the opinions of the school-family association management board and the teachers' board will be taken into account, just as in public schools. The uniforms determined by the school administration will not include restrictions such as special marks, prints, or patterns. Imposing such a restriction would mean a violation of the regulations. Additionally, school emblems cannot be produced by altering the uniforms in a way that would prevent the procurement of uniforms from the free market. The visual representation of the school uniform will be published on the school's website, and changes to the uniform will not be made for four academic years. The school uniform will be economical, simple, practical, easily obtainable, and in accordance with pedagogical principles, in line with the fundamental principles outlined in the Basic Law of National Education.
