As the investigation into the death of university student Rojin Kabaiş, whose lifeless body was found after she went missing in Van, continues, important statements came from the family's lawyer, Abdurrahman Karabulut. Claiming that DNA samples were not taken from some people with whom Rojin had contact just before she disappeared, Karabulut said that among these people was an individual whom Rojin addressed as 'my teacher.' Karabulut stated that they submitted a request to the prosecutor's office to investigate these individuals.
Abdurrahman Karabulut, the family's lawyer in the Rojin Kabaiş case, answered Melis Yaşar's questions from Haberler.com and explained the latest situation regarding the course of the investigation. The lifeless body of Kabaiş, a first-year student in the Preschool Teaching Department of the Faculty of Education at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, was found on the shore of Molla Kasım Village on Lake Van on October 15, 2024, after she went missing.
Karabulut claimed that hundreds of DNA samples were examined within the scope of the investigation, but DNA samples were not taken from some people Rojin said she had spoken with just before the incident.
"DNA OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAD LAST CONTACT WITH ROJİN WAS NOT TAKEN"
One of the most striking points in Karabulut's allegations was his statements about the people Rojin had contact with before she disappeared.
The family's lawyer, speaking to Haberler.com, said, "Their DNA was not taken. They are the people who had last contact with Rojin. Since she addressed him as 'Hocam' (my teacher), he is a teacher at Yüzüncü Yıl University. She had bought a gift for him."
Karabulut, who did not share detailed information about the identity of this person, argued that the people who met with Rojin shortly before the incident should be investigated.
Karabulut said, "It is not acceptable that the person closest to Rojin, who met with her just before the incident, was not detained and his DNA was not taken. I hope they have not fled. We have made a request to the prosecutor's office."
APPROXIMATELY 600 DNA SAMPLES WERE EXAMINED
Stating that approximately 600 DNA samples have been taken in the file so far, Karabulut said no positive match was achieved with any of them.
Karabulut, stating that they are trying to reach a conclusion by narrowing down the pool of suspects step by step, said, "There are other suspects from our perspective."
Karabulut, who said they took over the file about a month and a half ago, noted that the process progressed more slowly due to the judicial recess, but the prosecutor's office was evaluating their requests.
ENTRY AND EXIT OF 214 VEHICLES WERE EXAMINED
Another topic Karabulut brought up was the PTS (Plate Recognition System) records. According to the lawyer, it was determined that 214 vehicles entered and exited the village in the specified time interval.
Karabulut, who said it was reported that a person resembling Rojin was not seen in the vehicles, stated that they requested the examination hours to be extended further back.
Karabulut said, "People who kidnapped Rojin would not kidnap her in the front seat of the driver's car. It is highly likely they came to the scene two or three hours earlier," and expressed that the number of vehicles to be examined would increase if the time interval was expanded.
"IT COULD NOT BE SOLVED BECAUSE IT WAS CALLED SUICIDE INITIALLY"
Karabulut also answered the question of why Rojin Kabaiş's death has still not been clarified and made criticisms regarding the initial stages of the investigation.
Karabulut, who said, "It could not be solved because it was called suicide initially," also claimed that pressure was put on Rojin's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, suggesting his daughter had committed suicide.
Karabulut also made a serious allegation against the governor of the period, stating that pressure was exerted on the family and attempts were made to cover up evidence.
