LIFE-AND-DEATH DRAMA ON CAMERA
In the most striking footage from the region, a two-story detached house was seen stranded right in the middle of the raging floodwaters. The moments when citizens trapped on the roof and at the windows of the house were waiting for help were recorded second by second. The moment the muddy waters, rising meters within seconds, came close to swallowing the house, painfully documented the life-and-death struggle in the area.
"FLEE TO HIGHER GROUND!" WARNING
Search and rescue operations in the region have been temporarily suspended for security reasons. Security forces and aid teams have been put on high alert, while residents living near riverbeds have been urged to "move to higher ground without delay."
REACHING REMOTE AREAS COULD TAKE WEEKS
Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah announced that more than 13,000 security personnel are on the ground and that 573 people have been evacuated by helicopters. However, search and rescue efforts are being carried out with great difficulty due to collapsed bridges, closed roads, and severed communication lines. Disaster experts warn that due to the collapse of infrastructure in the mountainous terrain, it could take days or even weeks to deliver aid to remote villages and towns that helicopters cannot reach.
