The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) suspended the presiding judge, two member judges, and the prosecuting attorney in the trial of 3 defendants regarding the murder of Semih Kenan Köse in a dispute at a market in Izmir. According to the information received, in the hearing of the trial opened at the Izmir 3rd Heavy Penal Court regarding Köse's murder with a knife, the last detained defendant, Sercan B., was released. The 2nd Chamber of the HSK discussed the issue in today's meeting and decided to suspend the presiding judge, two member judges, and the prosecuting attorney. On the other hand, upon the objection of the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an arrest warrant for Sercan B. was issued by the Izmir 4th Heavy Penal Court. WHAT HAPPENED?In a market in Altıntaş Neighborhood, a dispute broke out between Semih Kenan Köse (30) and Sercan B. on October 16, 2023, due to a "shoulder bump". Köse, who was injured with a knife, died at Urla State Hospital where he was taken. The police detained Sercan B. and his brothers Serkan B. and Taylan B., who were involved in the fight, and the suspects were arrested. In the indictment prepared by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a lawsuit was filed against the 3 brothers for "intentional murder in complicity" and a life sentence was requested. In the first hearing of the trial at the Izmir 3rd Heavy Penal Court, Serkan B. and Taylan B., who were detained, were released.
