The president of Yeni Malatyaspor Club, Şahin Altunok, stated that they want to withdraw from the league following the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the city. Şahin Altunok said, "I want to express that we wish to withdraw from the league, provided that our rights are reserved in the presence of the public. Otherwise, there will be no other way to protect our footballer brothers who may face life-threatening situations and possibly experience traumas they will never forget for the rest of their lives." The statement made by Malatyaspor is as follows; "Dear people of Malatya, esteemed sports enthusiasts; we had taken over the presidency of Yeni Malatyaspor Club at the extraordinary election congress held a few days ago and quickly started our work. However, the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that occurred yesterday in the Kale district of Malatya has negatively affected our city and our team, leading to the demoralization of our players. Our facilities and stadium, which suffered heavy damage from the two major earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, were also affected by the earthquake that occurred yesterday, and the damage situation has worsened. The struggle we have been trying to maintain with limited and difficult means has put us in a completely different and more challenging situation with the earthquake that occurred yesterday. The effort we have made to play our matches in the stadium, the renovations carried out so far, have been seriously affected by our application made in the new period along with yesterday's earthquake. In addition, the damage to our facilities has left serious negative effects on both us and our footballer brothers. Both our players from Malatya and those coming from different cities do not want to stay in the facilities. Our footballer brothers, who have to prepare for matches and compete under these difficult conditions, are experiencing serious psychological issues just like every brother living in our city. Considering these conditions, I want to express that we wish to withdraw from the league, provided that our rights are reserved in the presence of the public. Otherwise, there will be no other way to protect our footballer brothers who may face life-threatening situations and possibly experience traumas they will never forget for the rest of their lives. This responsibility belongs to the Turkish Football Federation and the entire public. Sincerely..."
