In the last 7 months in Turkey, a total of 6,644 social media accounts have been blocked, including 3,679 linked to FETÖ and 2,965 spreading disinformation. The most blocks were applied on the X platform, while artificial trends and bot accounts are also detected through real-time analysis.
Under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, coordinated efforts carried out by the General Directorate of Security's Department of Anti-Cyber Crimes, Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, and the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) have achieved significant results in the digital sphere against terrorist propaganda and disinformation activities over the past 7 months.
ACCESS BLOCKED TO THOUSANDS OF TERROR-LINKED ACCOUNTS
As a result of technical examinations, digital network analyses, and judicial processes, access restrictions were imposed on a total of 6,644 social media accounts.
According to the data, 3,679 of the accounts subject to access restrictions were found to be linked to FETÖ and structures affiliated with FETÖ. Additionally, for 2,965 accounts identified as glorifying or encouraging terrorism, spreading disinformation, and engaging in psychological operation activities targeting Turkey, legal and administrative procedures were completed, and access block decisions were implemented through coordination with relevant institutions.
MOST ACCESS BLOCKS ON X
In the distribution of accounts blocked over the past 7 months by platform, X ranked first, followed respectively by Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify.
Authorities note that terrorist organizations and organized disinformation networks aim to steer public opinion, influence societal perception, and create information pollution during crisis periods, particularly by using platforms with high interaction potential.
NO PASS FOR ARTIFICIAL AGENDA OPERATIONS
According to obtained information, the coordination mechanism is not limited to intervening in illegal content. Trend topic lists, hashtag campaigns, coordinated sharing networks, and bot account movements on social media platforms are also tracked in real-time using advanced digital analysis methods.
While artificial agenda efforts created for psychological operations are quickly detected, the source and spread pattern of the campaigns are uncovered through digital network analyses. Through simultaneous technical and legal processes conducted by relevant institutions, coordinated influence operations are prevented from reaching broad audiences.
JOINT STRUGGLE IN "CYBER HOMELAND"
Security sources state that digital platforms are no longer just communication spaces but have become a battlefield directly concerning national security.
Through joint efforts by institutions, technical analysis, judicial processes, and access measures are managed harmoniously from a single center; thus, not only individual accounts but also organized digital networks are identified and neutralized. The access block data of 6,644 accounts emerging in the last 7 months reveals that Turkey is implementing a multi-layered and coordinated struggle model in the cyber homeland against terrorist propaganda, disinformation, and psychological operation activities.
