While the call of MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for "Öcalan to speak in the Parliament" continues to be debated, a noteworthy statement came from Bülent Arınç, who has been a manager in the AKP for many years. Arınç argued that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan could be released from İmralı with a general amnesty. Stating that a general amnesty would be appropriate, Arınç said, "General amnesty should not be discussed. If it is to be done, it should be done, and the matter should be settled."
Speaking to Cansu Çamlıbel from T24, Arınç made the following assessment regarding the issue: "Why would this person come to the Parliament? If he has the opportunity to go outside, he should do it in a luxury hotel or a small meeting place. The Ministry of Interior can also allocate a place for him. He can say whatever he wants there. I absolutely do not see it as possible for him to come to the Parliament. If a general amnesty is to be issued, we can consider this. And it could be appropriate. But from my experience in state life, early discharge in the military should not be discussed in terms of general amnesty. If it is to be done, it should be done, and the matter should be settled.
"THIS IS SOMETHING COMPATIBLE WITH HUMAN RIGHTS"
If the borders are drawn, the sentences of those sentenced to life imprisonment within those borders can also be reduced to 20 years. Or if a 'right to hope' is to be granted after 25 years... If the 'right to hope' is to be discussed, I would first hope for this; that is, the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights will be implemented from now on. The ECHR decision recognizing this right to hope was issued many years ago. And it is a decision that I really like. 'A person should not think that they will remain inside forever. If there is good behavior, they should hope that they can be released after this year,' it says. This is something compatible with human rights. But we had not accepted this."
