Güneri Civaoğlu passed away at the age of 85 in the hospital where he was treated in Beşiktaş. A ceremony was held in front of the Milliyet Newspaper building in Bağcılar for Güneri Cıvaoğlu. Many prominent figures from the business, politics, and media attended Civaoğlu's funeral, but two names stood out. Aydın Doğan, the Chairman of Doğan Holding and former owner of Milliyet Newspaper, who is remembered for his tensions with Tansu Çiller, met with Çiller at Civaoğlu's funeral after many years. It was also observed that the former prime ministers Çiller and Doğan, who sat side by side on a bench, occasionally chatted.

Former Prime Ministers Tansu Çiller and Aydın Doğan, the former owner of Milliyet and Hürriyet newspapers, were also present for the funeral prayer. Former Deputy Prime Minister Hüsamettin Özkan seated Tansu Çiller next to Aydın Doğan. The sincere conversation between the two figures, who had fought for years, drew attention at the funeral ceremony.

Aydın Doğan had said years ago about Tansu Çiller, "Ms. Tansu Çiller is trying to take away the right of neutrality from the Turkish press. When she took power, she applied pressure, but the Turkish press will never be enslaved." In another speech, Doğan stated, "Ms. Tansu accused us by naming names. In Sultanahmet Square, she said about us, 'I put in 2 quadrillion.' That's a lie. Ms. Tansu has accused us, and I have stood against her accusations."
