A 63-year-old man, Bekir Selvi, who was being treated in the hospital in Sivas for suspected Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) after a tick bite, has died. It has emerged that Selvi's cousin also died in 2020 due to a tick bite. The number of deaths from CCHF in the region this year has risen to 12.
Bekir Selvi (63), who was being treated at a hospital in Sivas on suspicion of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), has died. It was revealed that Selvi's cousin, Bilal Selvi, also died in 2020 due to a tick bite.
LOST THE FIGHT FOR LIFE
Bekir Selvi, a retired father of six who lived in Kızılca village in the central district of Sivas and was involved in transportation work, had a tick attach to him in the field. After falling ill shortly after, Selvi's condition was noticed by his relatives, and he was immediately taken to Sivas State Hospital.
He was later referred to Sivas Cumhuriyet University Medical Faculty Hospital. After initial examinations at the hospital, Selvi was taken under treatment in the anesthesia intensive care unit on suspicion of CCHF disease, and he lost his fight for life this morning. Selvi's body, received from the hospital morgue by his relatives, was taken to Kızılca village for burial.
DEATH TOLL REACHES 12
It was learned that Bekir Selvi's cousin, Bilal Selvi, also died in June 2020 as a result of a tick bite. The death of a second person from the same family due to a tick caused great sorrow in the village. The number of people who died while being treated for CCHF disease this year, brought from surrounding cities and Sivas districts, has risen to 12.
