In an operation targeting individuals who obtained personal data through a fake panel system and shared and sold this data on social media, 68 suspects, including 35 children, were detained in Istanbul.
The Istanbul police's Cyber Crimes Department teams detected that some information obtained through an illegal inquiry system called a panel was shared on social media accounts in a way that jeopardizes state security.
THEY SOLD PERSONAL DATA FOR MONEY
In the extensive investigation initiated, virtual patrol teams played an active role. The teams determined that the suspects had accessed a large number of personal data belonging to many individuals through the panel system, shared this data on social media, or sold it to third parties for money.
VICTIMS WERE PUSHED TO SUICIDE
It was established that the suspects who obtained the aforementioned data victimized many young girls and children, blackmailed these victims, and pushed them to the point of suicide.
OPERATION ON 68 SUSPECTS' ADDRESSES
Following the investigations, an investigation permit was obtained from the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and an operation was carried out at the identified addresses of 68 suspects, including software engineers, computer engineers, and computer programmers, who used this system.
35 OF THE SUSPECTS ARE CHILDREN
In a simultaneous operation conducted in 25 provinces centered in Istanbul, all of the suspects were taken into custody. It was noteworthy that 35 of the detained suspects were children. During the searches at the addresses, a large number of unlicensed firearms and automatic rifles were seized, and digital materials belonging to the suspects were confiscated. Additionally, it was learned that legal action would be taken against the detained suspects under Article 327 of the Turkish Penal Code (regarding obtaining information related to state security).
