Pakistani warplanes struck targets in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province. The attached video shows rising smoke after an explosion in a rural area, while Pakistani media reported that ammunition depots and militant infrastructure were targeted in the attack. The strike further escalated the rising tension along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in recent weeks.
The border tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has escalated further with a new airstrike. Pakistani warplanes struck targets in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.
Footage from the area shows an explosion near a rural, mountainous location, followed by thick smoke rising from the site. The presence of animals and some vehicles in the vicinity indicates that the attack occurred near open terrain.
AMMUNITION DEPOTS TARGETED
According to reports in the Pakistani press, the airstrike targeted ammunition depots, militant infrastructure, and logistics points. It was stated that the airstrike in Nangarhar was carried out following attacks on Pakistani security forces along the border.
The Islamabad administration argues that elements of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, are harbored in Afghan territory. For this reason, Pakistan considers its cross-border operations as "intervention against terrorist targets."
TENSION RISES ALONG THE BORDER
The attack came after weeks of increased clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Tensions in the region have escalated due to mutual attacks, artillery fire, and air operations.
While the Afghan side has previously stated that civilians have been harmed in Pakistani-origin attacks, Pakistan denies claims of targeting civilian sites.
CRITICAL PHASE IN KABUL-ISLAMABAD TIES
Pakistan's airstrike on Nangarhar has deepened the security crisis between the two countries. The Kabul administration views cross-border attacks as a violation of sovereignty, while the Islamabad administration asserts that threats emanating from Afghanistan toward Pakistan must be prevented.
Following the latest attack, the possibility of a new military response in the region and the course of diplomatic contacts have become a matter of curiosity.
