In the traffic accident that occurred when a passenger bus overturned in Eskişehir, 24 people were injured. A statement made about the incident claimed that the accident victim driver fell asleep. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
A passenger bus of Mercedes brand with license plate 26 ND 010, driven by Cemal Yıldırım and heading from Antalya to Istanbul, overturned into a ditch on the Kütahya - Eskişehir highway at the Kümbet Junction area after the driver lost control of the steering wheel. It was learned that 24 passengers inside the bus were injured in the accident.
DRIVER ALLEGEDLY FELL ASLEEP
Upon notification, police, gendarmerie, medical, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene. The 24 injured individuals were taken to hospitals and placed under treatment. While it was claimed that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, an investigation into the incident has been launched.
NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME THANKS TO THE SEATBELT
Gülsüm Yaşar, 56, who was traveling right behind the driver at the time of the accident, expressed the following about the incident:
"I was sleeping, I woke up suddenly with sounds. I saw the car shake and go left and right, then we overturned. Since my seatbelt was fastened, nothing happened to me. I just bumped my arms and feet. I was asleep. However, it is highly likely the driver was sleeping too. He also seemed unfamiliar with the roads. There was chaos inside, everyone was screaming. Because we had gone into a field. He wandered around quite a bit there, swerving left and right. Then he tried to get back on the road, and we overturned at that moment. I could see that. I was going to Bursa for the Uludağ Premium Ultra Trail Run. I was going to run 16 kilometers with my club."
