A Cessna 402 aircraft belonging to Flamingo Air crashed in a wooded area on Andros Island in the Caribbean nation of the Bahamas, killing 10 people, including 9 passengers and the pilot. Prime Minister Philip Davis declared a period of mourning due to the tragedy occurring on the anniversary of independence.
A Cessna 402 aircraft operated by Flamingo Air, which took off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, en route to San Andros Airport, crashed into a wooded area on Andros Island before landing.
10 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
In a statement, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis confirmed that 10 people, including 9 passengers and 1 pilot, lost their lives.
Davis stated, "A page marked by tragedy has once again been opened in our nation's history. Today was supposed to be a celebration (the 53rd independence anniversary) but has also become a day of mourning."
The Ministry of Transport announced that the airline's air operator certificate has been suspended as a precautionary security measure.

The Bahamas, located in the western Atlantic Ocean north of the Caribbean Sea, consists of over 700 islands and more than 2,400 smaller cays. Small aircraft are among the primary means of transportation between the islands.
