The Parliament is resuming its legislative work after a two-month break. President Erdoğan is speaking at the opening ceremony of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

STRIKING WORDS FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN

Highlights from President Erdoğan's statements are as follows; "My dear nation, esteemed president, valued representatives. I greet you with my heartfelt feelings. May the 3rd legislative year of the 28th term of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey be beneficial for our country and our nation.

I respectfully commemorate the first president of our Parliament, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the veterans and martyrs of our War of Independence. Our 28th term Parliament has been active in its first two legislative years. I would like to express my gratitude. In the upcoming legislative years, our Parliament will have a dedicated legislative year and will pass the laws needed by the nation. I pray to God for a fruitful, blessed, and productive year for all of you. I wish success to my friends.

"OUR PARLIAMENT WILL ALWAYS EXIST"

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey was opened on April 23, 1920, directed the national struggle, and established the republic on October 29, 1923, leading our independence war to victory. Turkey has centuries of experience in parliament. Our nation is one of the exceptional nations from the Seljuks to the present day. Our Parliament will always exist as a concrete symbol of our nation's freedom and will serve our nation honorably for many years to come.

Our nation has earned the title of "gazi" through its own strength. On July 15, our Parliament, bombed by the enemy, gave courage to our nation thanks to our representatives and reaffirmed its title of "gazi" by defending its Parliament. This Parliament has managed to find a way out even in the most challenging times. This Parliament has rightfully embraced the motto "Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation" written behind us.

"THE TERM OF THE 1982 CONSTITUTION HAS EXPIRED"

After the military coup on September 12, the existing constitution, under the shadow of weapons, is a narrow garment tailored for our nation. More than 20 amendments, large and small, indicate the dissatisfaction of the nation. The term of the 1982 constitution has expired. Achieving our great goals and ambitions is only possible with a new conciliatory, libertarian civil constitution. The need for a new civil constitution is becoming increasingly evident day by day. As the AK Party and the People's Alliance, we are meticulously preparing our own proposals. This does not mean that we close our doors to all ideas.

"IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO THINK OF THE NATION AND THE STATE AS SEPARATE"

We respect every idea and listen to every thought. Our fundamental and unshakeable principle is to be conciliatory, not polarizing; to be libertarian, not prohibitive. It is not possible to think of the nation and the state as separate. The state is not above the nation. The nation cannot stand without the state. We will not allow the weakening of our state or the division of our nation. The new constitution must possess qualities that embrace both the state and the nation, rather than separating them.
