Pro-Hadi Forces Shell Houthi Sites İn Yemen's Maarib

Army forces loyal to Yemeni President ABD Rabbuh Mansour Hadi on Saturday shelled locations belonging to the Shiite Houthi group in the eastern city of Maarib, a military source has said.



Pro-Hadi forces launched Katyusha and artillery shells at Houthi groupings in the district of Sirwah in western Maarib, the source, requesting anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency.



He went on to note that the shelling started once again to provide backing to pro-Hadi vigilantes who have been engaged in clashes with Houthi militants since Thursday.



The number of casualties and extent of the damage caused by the shelling could not be immediately determined.



On Friday, pro-Hadi army forces shelled Houthi groupings in the same area.



Fractious Yemen has remained in turmoil since last September, when Houthi militants overran capital Sanaa, from which they have sought to extend their influence to other parts of the country.



On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the end of a fierce month-long air campaign that had targeted positions belonging to the Shiite Houthi group in Yemen.



The following day, however, the Saudi-led air coalition resumed airstrikes, stressing its right to strike Houthi targets "if necessary."
