Comedian Deniz Göktaş, who was arrested as part of an investigation launched due to his statements in a stand-up show, has received support from his colleague Şahan Gökbakar. Gökbakar said, "Arresting and prosecuting someone under detention for a crime that, even if convicted, would likely not lead to imprisonment is not acceptable!"

The legal process for comedian Deniz Göktaş, who sparked public debate and faced an investigation due to his words in the stand-up show named "Dead Sea," ended with an arrest warrant. Göktaş, who returned to Turkey yesterday after completing his overseas trip, was arrested on charges of "inciting or demeaning the public to hatred and hostility" and "insulting the President" and was sent to prison. Following the decision, famous comedian and actor Şahan Gökbakar joined the rising reactions from the art community.

"ARRESTING FOR A CRIME HE WOULDN'T GO TO PRISON FOR IS UNACCEPTABLE"

Şahan Gökbakar, who made a statement on the subject via his social media account, criticized the legal proportionality of the arrest decision. Emphasizing that Göktaş had no intention to flee, Gökbakar said:

"I sadly learned that Deniz was arrested because of the jokes in his show! Arresting and prosecuting someone who voluntarily returned to their country for an alleged crime committed through speech, which even if punished would likely not result in prison time, is not acceptable!"

"HE IS A PURE-HEARTED PERSON, HE WOULD NOT WANT TO HURT ANYONE"

Continuing his message of support for his colleague, Gökbakar emphasized Deniz Göktaş's intentions and character, and concluded his words wishing for Göktaş's swift release:

"Deniz is a very smart, talented, and pure-hearted good person. I am sure he never wanted to upset or hurt anyone. I hope he is released as soon as possible!"
