Three attackers who followed and assaulted a driver they argued with in traffic in Maltepe were caught by virtual patrol teams. Following the footage that drew reactions on social media, the suspects were detained, and a total fine of 540 thousand lira was imposed. As part of the operation, the licenses of two drivers were confiscated for 60 days, and their vehicles were also banned from traffic for the same period.
Traffic thugs were not given a pass in Istanbul. In Maltepe, three thugs who followed a driver for kilometers after a traffic dispute and attacked him were caught red-handed by police teams. Following the footage that sparked huge reaction on social media, teams took action and rained penalties on the attackers.
TERROR MOMENTS IN TRAFFIC CAUGHT ON CAMERA
The incident occurred on the evening of May 24 in Maltepe's Fındıklı District. A driver cruising on the street argued with individuals in another vehicle for an unknown reason. After the argument, 3 attackers followed the driver, blocked his car, and brutally assaulted him. The terror moments, captured second by second on citizens' mobile phone cameras, went viral on social media, causing outrage.
CAUGHT THANKS TO VIRTUAL PATROL
Following the footage, teams from the Istanbul Traffic Enforcement Branch Directorate launched a comprehensive investigation. As a result of virtual patrol teams' examinations, the identities of vehicle drivers B.Ş. and M.K., along with passenger A.Ö., were quickly identified and they were taken into custody.
540 THOUSAND LIRA FINE AND LEGAL ACTION
An exemplary punishment was applied to the suspects in custody. Under the Highway Traffic Law, a total administrative fine of 540 thousand lira was imposed on the 3 suspects. Moreover, teams confiscated the licenses of 2 drivers for 60 days and banned the vehicles used in the incident from traffic for 60 days. Legal proceedings were initiated against suspects M.K. and A.Ö. for "intentional injury" and "endangering traffic."
