In the case of minor defendant M.K., who raided his own grandfather and bedridden wife with a shotgun in Bursa Orhaneli, causing the death of his friend during the incident, a verdict has been reached. The court imposed a heavy prison sentence on the defendant, who said 'I am not sorry, I would do it again' at the hearing, without applying any reduction for good conduct. The decision is considered a precedent, emphasizing 'deterrence' in juvenile crimes.

While Turkey has been shaken by a series of horrific crimes committed by children in recent times, a record sentence was handed down in Bursa in the case of a robbery attempt that resulted in the deaths of three people. Bursa's first children's heavy penal court set a precedent by sending a message of "deterrence" against children pushed into crime (SSÇ) and closing the door on good conduct deductions.

According to the information in the indictment, in the incident that occurred in the Orhaneli district of Bursa on October 11, 2024, M.K. (17) and his friend U.U., who had consumed alcohol and drugs, raided the home of M.K.'s biological grandfather, Mustafa Macar, with hunting rifles, dreaming of "getting rich quick." During the incident, grandfather Mustafa Macar and his bedridden wife Cahide Aydın were brutally killed, while in the ensuing scuffle, one of the accomplices, U.U. (17), also lost his life from a cartridge fired from his friend M.K.'s hunting rifle. Among the striking details in the file is that after the incident, the fleeing suspects went to visit a neighbor to avoid attracting attention and made no calls for help until the victims' bodies were found the next day.

BRUTALLY KILLED 3 PEOPLE, SAID "I AM NOT REMORSEFUL"

The verdict hearing at the Bursa Children's Heavy Penal Court took place in the shadow of the horrifying incident committed by children recently. The court panel did not compromise with the defendants, taking into account the escalating spiral of "child brutality" and the cold-bloodedness of the crime. The statement made by the detained child pushed into crime, M.K., in his final words, "I am not remorseful, I would do it again if given the chance," was recorded as the most chilling moment of the trial.

RECORD SENTENCE: TOTAL 111 YEARS

The city's first children's heavy penal court clearly showed that it would not tolerate either the defendants in Bursa or similar crime profiles. In the case where no good conduct deduction (TCK 62) was applied: The detained child pushed into crime, M.K., was sentenced to a total of 63 years in prison for 3 separate murders and violation of domicile immunity.

Another detained child pushed into crime, A.E., who claimed he had no involvement with the murders and robbery, said in his final words, "I regret being friends with such a person," but it was not enough. A.E. received a 48-year prison sentence for participating in only 2 murders of the elderly couple who were brutally killed.

COMMUNITY CONSCIENCE INSTEAD OF MINORITY OF AGE

Legal experts and social scientists state that incidents like the school attack in Kahramanmaraş and the grandson horror in Bursa are a result of uncontrolled access to weapons, alcohol and substance use, and digital violence. These heavy sentences handed down by the courts show that in proceedings against children pushed into crime, the criterion of "minority of age" is now being replaced by the principle of "the gravity of the crime and community conscience."
