Following the adoption of the framework law prepared within the scope of 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, a debate has emerged over whether the regulation covers former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş. During a live broadcast on Habertürk TV, journalist Alişer Delek said Demirtaş's situation was uncertain, while MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız sent a notable note to the broadcast. In response to Delek's assessment, Yıldız conveyed the message, 'Selahattin Demirtaş is covered by the law.'
Following the approval of the framework law prepared within the scope of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) General Assembly, a debate has arisen over whether the law covers Selahattin Demirtaş, former co-chair of the HDP. During a Habertürk TV broadcast, journalist Alişer Delek stated, "His brother Nurettin Demirtaş will return from the mountain cadre, but Selahattin Demirtaş's status is uncertain." Delek noted that after these remarks, MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız sent a note to the broadcast, conveying that Yıldız said, "Selahattin Demirtaş is covered by the law."
LAW APPROVED IN TBMM
The Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Cohesion, which constitutes the legal pillar of the "Terror-Free Turkey" process, was accepted in the TBMM General Assembly and became law. The scope of the regulation and who can benefit from it were among the prominent topics on the political agenda.
The entry into force of the law is conditional upon security institutions determining that the PKK/KCK has ended its de facto existence and surrendered its weapons, and this determination being confirmed by the National Security Council. The regulation includes provisions concerning crimes such as establishing or managing the PKK/KCK, being a member of the organization, knowingly and willingly aiding it, engaging in organization propaganda, and certain offenses committed within the scope of the organization's activities.
DEMIRTAŞ DEBATE
The debate came back to the agenda with an assessment made on Habertürk TV.
Journalist Alişer Delek, in his assessment during the live broadcast, said that Nurettin Demirtaş would return from the mountain cadre, but the status of former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş was uncertain.
Following Delek's assessment, MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız sent a note to the broadcast to clarify the situation.
FETİ YILDIZ'S NOTE
Alişer Delek later shared on his social media account the message Feti Yıldız sent him.
In his post, Delek stated the following:
"During the broadcast, I raised Demirtaş's situation. I said, 'His brother Nurettin Demirtaş will return from the mountain cadre, but Selahattin Demirtaş's status is uncertain.' Mr. Feti Yıldız sent a note to the Habertürk broadcast and said, 'Selahattin Demirtaş is covered by the law.'"
