After rainfall in Nevşehir, a retaining wall of a construction site collapsed, causing damage to an apartment building in front of it. Some apartment walls were destroyed, while teams dispatched to the scene took security measures in the area. The at-risk 3-story apartment building and a nearby kindergarten were evacuated. Residents experienced great fear, and it was claimed that previous complaints were not taken into account.

WALL COLLAPSED, APARTMENTS DAMAGED

The retaining wall of a construction site on Şafak Street in Esentepe Neighborhood collapsed after the rain. As a result of the collapse, the walls of some apartments in the building across the street were destroyed.

Upon notification, police, health, fire brigade, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. While teams took security measures in the area, the at-risk 3-story apartment building and a nearby private kindergarten were evacuated.

“WE THOUGHT THE BUILDING WAS COLLAPSING ON US”

Sabit Işık, a resident of the building, stated that he woke up to a loud noise at night and said, “I thought it was a lightning strike. When I checked, I saw that the wall of my apartment had collapsed. I thought the building was collapsing on us, but it was the retaining wall.” Işık noted that the building is still at risk.

Abdullah Çıkrıkçı, another apartment resident, stated that they had previously filed complaints with relevant authorities and said, “We woke up to a loud noise before dawn. We saw that the wall had collapsed. We couldn't notice it in the dark, but the extent of the damage became apparent when daylight came.”
