"SPECIFIC TO RUSSIA"
A US intelligence source, speaking to ABC News on condition of anonymity, made assessments regarding the UAV detected near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
The source claimed that the structure of the device and the explosives placed inside it were "specific" to those used by the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff.
DISASTER PREVENTED AT THE LAST MOMENT
The source, who claimed this conclusion was reached in collaboration with German security and intelligence agencies, alleged that the UAV did not explode because the connection in the triggering mechanism was severed.
THE INCIDENT
After an explosive-laden UAV was detected near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport in Germany on the night of August 4, security measures were increased and the airport was closed to flights throughout the night.
