The Greek press claimed that a military test was conducted underwater off the coast of Lavrio Port, with the participation of Israel. According to the allegations, TNT, toxic, and radioactive materials were used in the tests carried out under EU-supported research. The report asserted that the activities were conducted without informing the local population and without obtaining the necessary environmental approvals.
The Greek newspaper EFSYN claimed that military tests were conducted underwater off the coast of Lavrio Port with the participation of Israel.
According to the newspaper's report titled "Israel's war industry in the depths of Greek waters," the tests were carried out between March 16-20 as part of a research program funded by the European Union.
CONDUCTED WITHIN THE SCOPE OF AN EU-FUNDED RESEARCH PROGRAM
The report stated that the research program called "UnderSec" (Underwater Security) was first launched in 2023, aiming to develop marine technologies not only in Lavrio but also in the ports of Valencia, Spain, and Ravenna, Italy.
It was noted that the Israeli Ministry of Defense, which works closely with Germany, the Israeli defense industry company RAFAEL, and Tel Aviv University also participated in the research.
ALLEGATION OF EXPLOSIVES AND TOXIC SUBSTANCES
In the EFSYN report, it was alleged that TNT-like explosives, as well as toxic and radioactive substances, were used in the tests. The report also included the statement: "The five-day tests were carried out without any information to the local population, without obtaining the necessary environmental approvals, and in a manner that seriously endangered biodiversity in the port."
RAFAEL DETAIL DREW ATTENTION
The report also featured RAFAEL, one of the key institutions of the Israeli state defense industry. The company was described as "advertising a drone with a video showing a Palestinian being killed in Gaza last year."
No statements have been made by Greek authorities or the institutions mentioned in the research regarding the allegations.
