The Republican Patriots Party (CVP) announced that Chairman Serkan Öz was detained in Ankara by Counter-Terrorism Branch teams. Claiming that Öz was detained on the grounds of "having contact with Erlik," the party stated that a search and seizure operation was carried out at a business owned by his family and demanded his release.
The Headquarters of the Republican Patriots Party announced that Chairman Serkan Öz was detained in Ankara. According to the information provided by the party, Anti-Terror Branch teams went to the business owned by Öz's family and enforced a search and seizure decision.
After the procedures, it was reported that Öz was taken to the police headquarters.
"HE WAS DETAINED ON THE GROUNDS OF HAVING CONTACT WITH ERLİK"
In the statement made by the party, the following statements were included regarding the reason for the detention:
"Our Chairman Serkan Öz has been detained on the grounds that he 'had contact with Erlik.' Anti-Terror teams went to the family business, a search and seizure decision was enforced, and the chairman of a political party was taken to the police headquarters."
In the statement, the legal basis of the detention decision was questioned, and reaction was shown to Öz's detention due to his contact with a person.
"OUR CHAIRMAN MUST BE RELEASED IMMEDIATELY"
CVP Headquarters demanded that the legal grounds for the detention be explained and that the bases for the search and seizure decisions be made public.
In the party's statement, the following expressions were used: "Our Chairman Serkan Öz must be released immediately. The legal grounds for this detention must be explained immediately, and the basis for the search and seizure procedures must be made public."
"WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED BY DETENTIONS"
In the continuation of the statement, emphasizing that party activities would continue, the following statements were included:
"If you think you will frighten, intimidate, and silence the Republican Patriots Party through these methods, you are mistaken. We are fighting for the independence of this country, the Republic, the gains of the Turkish nation, and Atatürk's Turkey. We will not be brought to heel by pressure, will not step back due to threats, and will not be silenced by detentions."
The party administration stated that it would continue its political work despite the detention.
WHO IS SERKAN ÖZ?
Born in Ankara on May 9, 1975, Serkan Öz is 51 years old. Öz, who is originally from Çorum, is registered in the population records of Çıkrık village in Çorum.
He completed his primary education at Abidin Paşa Primary School, his secondary education at Cebeci Middle School, and his high school education at Ankara High School. In 2004, he graduated from Mersin University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Public Administration.
WHAT IS SERKAN ÖZ'S PROFESSION?
Between 2001 and 2012, he served as personnel records chief at the Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education. Starting in 2013, Öz began engaging in trade, and between 2018 and 2022 he served as a Member of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce Assembly and as a delegate of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
HIS POLITICAL CAREER
He took part in the establishment of Veryansın TV and the Republican Patriots Party together with journalist and writer Nihat Genç. On July 20, 2025, he was elected Chairman of the Republican Patriots Party. He also appears as chairman on the party's official website.
