In the report prepared regarding the school attack in Kahramanmaraş that killed 10 people, it was stated that the attacker, İsa Aras Mersinli, opened a video chat on Telegram before the massacre and may have livestreamed the attack. While traces of a group video call before the attack were detected in digital examinations, it was revealed that a user from Belgium participated in the call, and a child from England asked the attacker for advice on a similar act.
New details have emerged regarding the school attack in Kahramanmaraş that killed 9 students and 1 teacher. According to information presented to the parliamentary investigation committee established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, it was determined that the 14-year-old perpetrator, İsa Aras Mersinli, had opened a video chat on Telegram before the massacre and may have broadcast the attack live.
According to information reported by journalist İsmail Saymaz, the report presented to the TBMM (Turkish Grand National Assembly) Research Commission on School Incidents in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş and Digital Risks stated that the assailant initiated a video chat in a group named 'Konata Izumi' via the Telegram application on his phone while leaving home on the day of the incident.
HE LEFT HIS PHONE IN THE HALLWAY AND WAITED FOR RECESS
According to the report, Mersinli prepared the weapons he brought with him in the restroom after entering the school building. He then left his phone, with the video chat still active, on top of a radiator in the school hallway and waited for students to come out for recess.
He carried out the first attack against two female students who had gone down to the lower-floor restroom because the upper-floor restroom was out of order.
DIGITAL TRACES DETECTED
In the digital examination conducted by the police, it was noted that digital traces were found indicating that the assailant had opened a video group chat via his Telegram account named 'Konata Izumi' just before the attack.
The report stated, 'Based on the way he held his phone and wore headphones during the period from leaving home to the moment of the incident, it is considered that he may have been conducting a chat/video chat or live broadcast.'
CONNECTION TO BELGIUM AND ENGLAND
As part of the investigation, communications were held with Telegram to identify the accounts that participated in the video chat. Examinations identified a user connecting to the conversation from Belgium.
Following contact with Belgian authorities, it was determined that the IP address could be linked to a phone line belonging to a person of Albanian origin. It was learned that the individual's 15-year-old son had used the phone, and efforts were underway to apprehend the child.
Meanwhile, it emerged that a child from England had also sent messages to the assailant. According to allegations, the English child shared a sketch of his own school, stated he wanted to carry out a similar attack, and asked for advice. Upon notification by Turkish authorities, the child in question was apprehended in his own country.
