The second hearing was held in the case of Hamdi Karakuş, who was allegedly abducted in 2006 in the Günyüzü district of Eskişehir by people disguised as gendarmes and has been missing for 20 years. Witness M.Ö. claimed that they saw Karakuş in the Turgutlu district of Manisa in 2022-2023 while he was working in the detergent business and that they ate together. While the family's lawyer found the claim contrary to the ordinary course of life, the court decided to continue the detention of 8 defendants.
The second hearing of the case of Hamdi Karakuş, who was abducted in 2006 in the Günyüzü district of Eskişehir by people posing as gendarmerie, was held. Witness M.Ö., who was heard at the hearing, claimed that he saw Karakuş, who had been missing for 20 years, working in the detergent business in the Turgutlu district of Manisa and that they ate together.
HE WAS ABDUCTED 20 YEARS AGO; THE DNA TRACE REOPENED THE CASE
No news had been received for 20 years from Hamdi Karakuş, who was beaten and lost an eye in 2005 in the Çardaközü Neighborhood of the Günyüzü district of Eskişehir and who was allegedly abducted on April 1, 2006 by individuals who introduced themselves as gendarmerie. In the file reopened by the Gendarmerie Detective Teams (JASAT) of the Eskişehir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, an operation had been carried out after the DNA profile taken from the broken plastic on the buttstock of the shotgun used in the incident matched Hamdi Karakuş.
The second hearing of the case filed against the suspects taken into custody was held at the Eskişehir 1st High Criminal Court. Detained and non-detained defendants, party lawyers, and witnesses attended the hearing.
FAMILY LAWYER: CONTRARY TO THE ORDINARY COURSE OF LIFE
Speaking in front of the Eskişehir Courthouse after the hearing, family lawyer Doğancan Çıra said, "The second hearing of the intentional homicide case of the client's brother, Hamdi Karakuş, before the High Criminal Court was held today. Witnesses were heard, and it was decided that witnesses who were not heard would be heard at the next hearing. Witness M.Ö. made a claim contrary to the ordinary course of life, alleging that the client's brother was seen in the Turgutlu district of Manisa in 2022-2023, was working in the detergent business, was carrying a different identity, and did not return to the village in order to make his family suffer. The judiciary will evaluate this; we will do our utmost to ensure that the defendants are punished in the severest manner."
THE DETENTION OF 8 DEFENDANTS WILL CONTINUE
The court panel decided to continue the detention of detained defendants E.A., G.A., İ.K., M.K., M.Ö., S.A., Ü.A., and Ü.Ö. on the grounds of the current evidence and the existence of a strong suspicion of crime. It was learned that 2 defendants within the scope of the file continue to be tried without detention under judicial control conditions.
