Istanbul has gone on alert for the expected snowfall. While measures are being increased against adverse weather conditions across the city, it has been stated that flights will be canceled.
Due to the expected snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday, it has been announced that 10% of flights at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport will be canceled. In a statement made by the Airport Operations and Aviation Industries Inc. (HEAŞ), it was stated, "Due to the expected adverse meteorological conditions at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, flights will be canceled by 10% on February 5, 2025, and February 6, 2025. All passengers are advised to follow the latest status of their flights through the relevant airline's websites and call centers."
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP RAPIDLY
Turkey is under the influence of a new rainy weather system coming from Russia. Air temperatures, which have been above seasonal norms, are expected to show a sharp decline throughout the week. Meteorology experts indicate that temperatures will decrease by 6 to 12 degrees, making winter conditions felt. While heavy snowfall is expected in cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, Bolu, and Kastamonu, warnings have been issued for citizens to be cautious.

According to the weekly weather forecast report published by the Disaster Affairs Department of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (AKOM), a cold air wave originating from Siberia is affecting Istanbul. Temperatures are expected to drop starting Tuesday evening, with snowfall anticipated on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the statement from AKOM, temperatures starting around 7°C on Monday, February 3, 2025, will rise to 12°C during the afternoon. However, they are expected to drop again in the evening and night hours, reaching around 8°C. During the day, the wind is expected to blow moderately from the south, while a strong north wind is anticipated in the evening. The relative humidity is expected to range between 65-90%, with precipitation amounts estimated to be between 2 to 5 kg/m².
According to AKOM's meteorological assessment, a large part of the country, especially Istanbul, is entering the influence of the cold air wave from Siberia. It is stated that temperatures will drop by 6-8°C starting from the evening hours of Tuesday (February 4), increasing the effects of winter conditions. On Wednesday and Thursday, there is a possibility of mixed rain and snow in Istanbul.
In the coming days, temperatures are expected to drop to 1-3°C, which is 4-6°C below seasonal norms. Warnings have been issued regarding the possibility of frost and icing in higher elevations, emphasizing that drivers and citizens should be cautious.
WHICH DISTRICTS IN ISTANBUL WILL SEE SNOW?
According to the data from the Meteorology 1st Regional Directorate, snow is expected in the districts of Arnavutköy, Ataşehir, Başakşehir, Beykoz, Beylikdüzü, Çatalca, Çekmeköy, Eyüp, Esenyurt, Gaziosmanpaşa, Kağıthane, Sancaktepe, Sarıyer, Şile, Silivri, Şişli, Sultangazi, and Ümraniye; while mixed rain and snow will fall in the other 21 districts.
NTV Meteorology Editor Dilek Çalışkan, in her weather forecast, stated, "The felt temperature in Istanbul will be 1 degree on Tuesday, -2 on Wednesday, and -4 on Thursday. There will be rain in Istanbul this evening, which will start to turn into sleet tomorrow evening. On Wednesday, there will be a precipitation between sleet and snow."
