Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt, who resigned from the Democratic Party, announced on his social media account that he has joined the CHP (Republican People's Party). In his post, Enginyurt stated, "In order not to turn the legitimate votes given to us by CHP voters into illegitimate ones, tomorrow we are joining the Republican People's Party together with our Izmir MP Salih Uzun in the CHP group at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey."

After being elected as a member of parliament from the CHP lists, Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt and Izmir MP Salih Uzun, who resigned from the Democratic Party, joined the CHP.

Salih Uzun announced the development during a television program he attended. Stating that "We were already elected as members of parliament from the CHP lists," Uzun said, "We had two options ahead of us. We could have continued as independents. If we were to join a party, we thought that joining the CHP, from which we were elected, was the right choice. But the main point is that a wave of lawlessness is coming towards us. We are faced with attempts to divide and fragment the opposition. We needed to develop a stance against this."

STATEMENT FROM CEMAL ENGİNYURT

After Uzun's statements, a statement also came from Enginyurt, who remained silent. Enginyurt, who shared on his social media account, stated, "I was elected as a CHP Member of Parliament on May 14, 2023. In order not to turn the legitimate votes given to us by the CHP electorate into illegitimate ones, tomorrow we are joining the Republican People's Party with our Izmir MP Salih Uzun in the TBMM CHP group. Together we will win, resisting and uniting."
