Winter-like scenes are being experienced in Afyonkarahisar. After the heavy snowfall that started in the evening hours, traffic came to a standstill on the roads connecting Afyonkarahisar to Ankara, Uşak, and Sandıklı. The Damlalı Boğazı area was closed to heavy vehicle traffic. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure also warned drivers to be careful.
Rain that started in the early hours of the morning in Afyonkarahisar turned into snowfall in the evening.
ROADS CLOSED
Due to the snowfall, drivers had difficulty progressing on the highway, while highway teams that arrived in the region began snow removal and salting operations.
Heavy vehicles are not allowed to pass through the Damlali Gorge on the Afyonkarahisar-Sandikli highway. Vehicle queues also formed on the Afyonkarahisar-Ankara and Afyonkarahisar-Usak highways. It was stated that the teams' efforts to keep the roads open are ongoing.
WARNING FROM THE MINISTRY
In a statement from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, citizens using these roads were warned to be cautious.
The statement from the Ministry included the following: "The Usak-Afyonkarahisar, Afyonkarahisar-Sandikli, and Afyonkarahisar-Ankara State roads have been closed to trucks and tractors as of 23:00 on 03.05.2026 due to heavy and sudden snowfall, while they remain open to other vehicles. We remind our drivers using these roads to be cautious, and we inform the public and our citizens that our highway teams and snow-fighting vehicles are on duty against any possible adversities."
