India's main opposition Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi Monday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "deafening silence" on scandals involving his ministers.
Gandhi also made it clear that her party would not let the Parliament function unless External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and chief ministers of two states resign.
"He (Modi) has been conspicuous by his deafening silence on blatant transgressions by his External Affairs Minister and two of his Chief Ministers," Gandhi said in the national capital.
She added, "(There will be) no productive discussions, no meaningful proceedings as long as those responsible for gross wrongdoings remain in office."
The opposition parties, led by Congress, have not been allowing the Parliament to function since its Monsoon Session began in the middle of last month.
They have been demanding that Swaraj, Chief Minister of the western Indian state of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje and Chief Minister of central state of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan quit.
While Swaraj and Raje are accused of helping the country's former scam-tainted cricket boss Lalit Modi, now a fugitive in the United Kingdom, Chauhan is accused of his involvement in a financial scam. (Cihan/Xinhua)
