Statement from the Ministry of National Education following the school attack in Kahramanmaraş

In an armed attack on a middle school in Kahramanmaraş, 9 people lost their lives and 13 were injured; following the incident, a statement from the Ministry of National Education indicated that the process is being closely monitored.

Following the school attack in Şanlıurfa's Siverek district, a similar incident has now been reported from an educational institution in Kahramanmaraş. In the armed attack carried out at Ayşer Çalık Middle School located in the Onikişubat district, 9 people lost their lives and 13 people were injured. Kahramanmaraş Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer announced that 1 of the deceased was a teacher and 8 were students. It was reported that some of the injured are in serious condition.

INVESTIGATION EXPANDED

While the judicial process has been initiated following the incident, 3 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors and 4 Public Prosecutors have been assigned within the scope of the investigation. Security forces continue their examinations regarding the incident.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION

Following the attack, the Ministry of National Education also published a written press release. The statement noted that the attack at Ayşel Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş's Onikişubat district caused great sorrow. According to initial information, the statement indicated that the attack was carried out by a school student, emphasizing that the process is being followed with sensitivity by the Ministry and all interventions are being carried out in coordination with the relevant units. It was conveyed that Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin moved to the region with officials after the incident, and that chief inspectors have been assigned to examine the matter in all its aspects. The statement wished urgent recovery for the injured while sharing condolences for the teacher and students who lost their lives. It was stated that detailed information regarding the incident will be shared with the public in the upcoming process.
