At the first hearing of the school attack in Kahramanmaraş, the lawyer of the defendants requested the release of his clients, saying, 'The mother has lost 12-13 kilos in prison, she is under doctor's supervision there and using medication. This woman cannot serve prison time.'
The trial regarding the school attack in Kahramanmaraş, in which 9 students and 1 teacher lost their lives, is being heard at the Kahramanmaraş 3rd Heavy Penal Court.
"WE DEMAND THE RELEASE OF OUR CLIENTS" Following the defenses of the detained defendants, father Uğur and mother Pınar Peyman Mersinli, the defendants' lawyer stated that they are not defending İsa Aras Mersinli and requested the release and acquittal of the mother and father. The lawyer said, "I ask God's mercy for those who died. Those who died are also our children, and we are very sad too. In the indictment, only evidence and facts against the clients have been obtained. There is nothing concrete. We are not defending our child. Even if he was bad, our child was taken away while in a helpless state. We want to believe in the rule of law, not public opinion, and we believe in it to the end. The client mother is an educator, and the father is a chief police inspector. The claim that this child was not cared for is an abstract statement. This child was being cared for. The principle of personal criminal responsibility should be applied for our clients. There have been 59 school attacks in this country, and we do not know of an investigation into whether parents were tried in those attacks. We could not have known that our child would become a murderer" said the lawyer.
"THE MOTHER HAS LOST 12-13 KILOS IN PRISON" Describing that prison conditions are difficult for mother Pınar Peyman Mersinli, the defense lawyer said, "In the perpetrator's manifesto, he had written that he would kill his family. As the reason for not killing them, he mentions his sister and then moves on to the school plan. The child deceived his father and hid himself. He had himself taken to the shooting range. The mother and father would not have wanted such an act to be carried out. There is unnecessary pressure from the public. The mother has lost 12-13 kilos in prison, she is under doctor's supervision and taking pills there. This woman cannot serve a prison sentence. We request the mother's release. There are many contradictions in the indictment. There are contradictions among the psychologists. If only he had done this to the family so my clients would not have fallen into this situation. This child was in contact with some people abroad; it could be a cyber attack. Pınar Peyman Mersinli was initially released, then what evidence was presented that she was re-arrested. I am not defending the criminal either. I request the acquittal and release of my clients," he stated.
The hearing continues as the families of those who lost their lives in the attack give their statements.
