Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara arrived in Ankara as a "special guest" of the NATO Summit. Al-Shara will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the NATO Summit.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara arrived in Ankara as part of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat, who welcomed al-Shara at Esenboğa Airport, stated: "We welcomed Syrian President Mr. Ahmed al-Shara at Esenboğa Airport in Ankara as part of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government hosted by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Turkey will continue to resolutely pursue initiatives that strengthen diplomacy, regional stability, and mutual economic cooperation."
