French politician Marine Le Pen, who was found guilty of corruption in a case where she was tried for embezzling European Union (EU) funds by the Paris Court of Appeal, announced in a television program following the verdict that she would run in the 2027 presidential election. Le Pen said, "I am a candidate in the presidential election."

Le Pen, stating that she would appeal the verdict to the French Supreme Court, argued that her appeal would suspend the effects of the appellate decision. Le Pen said, "I will conduct my campaign without an electronic bracelet. The ballot box, rather than a court ruling, should decide my political future. Nothing should be imposed on the French people."
The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced the politician Marine Le Pen, found guilty of corruption, to 1 year of house arrest with an electronic bracelet, a 15-month ban from politics, and a fine of 100,000 euros.
