Tarkan adapted and performed his 2008 song 'Uyan' with English lyrics for COP31, which Turkey will host in Antalya on November 9–20. The song, carrying a call to protect nature and take action, will reach the international public through the summit.

Türkiye is preparing to host the 31st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP31) in Antalya from 9 to 20 November. Tarkan, known for his nature campaigns, also voluntarily prepared the song 'Uyan', which he wrote in 2008, for the COP31 Summit with English lyrics and a new adaptation. The song, which carries a call to protect nature and take action together, will reach the international public through the summit.

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change is continuing its preparations for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the world's most important climate organisation. Many artists and volunteers are implementing awareness projects for the events to be held in Antalya between 9 and 20 November. As part of this, megastar Tarkan also performed his song 'Uyan', whose lyrics and music are his own, adapted into English for COP31. The video includes striking images related to climate change.

The summit, which will bring together country representatives, decision-makers and climate stakeholders from all over the world, will centre on dialogue, consensus and joint action. Türkiye positions COP31 as not only a COP where the climate crisis is discussed, but an 'Action COP' where the decisions taken are turned into concrete steps.

Tarkan, known for his work on nature conservation and the nature campaigns he has supported for years, voluntarily prepared his 2008 song 'Uyan' for the COP31 Summit with English lyrics and a new adaptation. The song, which carries a call to protect nature and take action together, will reach the international public through the summit.

TARKAN SAID THE FOLLOWING ON THE SUBJECT:

“I have always admired nature's unique ecological order within itself and the tremendous harmony and balance that everything establishes with one another. Today, the fact that nature is being rapidly destroyed by human hands and that enough action is not being taken to change this course deeply saddens me. Getting used to and turning a blind eye to this destruction has never been an option for me. With my belief that together we can change this negative course, I wrote my song Uyan years ago with this feeling and intention.

Today, with the same belief and hope, I have prepared Uyan again with English lyrics and a new musical adaptation for the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP31 Türkiye, to be held in our country in November. My aim is to be the voice of nature to the world and to call on all of us once again to take action. At this important meeting, where the world will come together to seek solutions to the climate crisis together, my greatest wish is for my WAKE UP call to reach more people and move all of us to action.”

Inviting everyone to shared responsibility, Tarkan said: “Protecting our world is the most fundamental duty and responsibility of all of us. Our time is running short. We must take action before it is too late. We have no choice but to wake up and wake those who are asleep. And I still believe: if we believe and join hands, everything is possible.”

The Turkish lyrics of the song 'WAKE UP/UYAN' are as follows:

With tears in her eyes/ She calls out to all of us/ Come, soothe this pain/ Don't let me fall/ Like a bird with a broken wing/ My heart is bleeding, she says/ Before you throw me into the fire/ Ask your conscience, she says/ Wake up, take action/ Put your hand on your heart before our time runs out/ Don't say the rest of this road is uphill/ We'll cross mountains if you believe/ Wake up, wake up, my friend, wake up/ Put your hand on your heart before our time runs out/ If we become one, we will succeed/ Everything is possible if you believe/ 'This is how it has come, this is how it goes'/ Don't deceive yourself with these words/ Who knows, maybe our struggle is worth it/ Hold on to your truth, hold on to what is right...

WAKE UP

With tears in her eyes

She calls out to us all

Come heal this pain

Don't let me fall

Like a bird with a broken wing

My heart is bleeding she says

Before you throw me into flames

Ask your conscience she says.

You gotta wake up, you gotta stand up

Put your hand on your heart before time is up

Don't say the road ahead is too steep

We'll cross mountains if you believe

Wake up, wake up, my friend, wake up

Put your hand on your heart before time is up

Stand as one, we will achieve

Anything is possible if you believe

'That's how it's been and will be'

Don't let those words pull you in

Who knows? Maybe this is worth the fight

Hold to your truth, hold to what's right

You gotta wake up, you gotta stand up

Put your hand on your heart before time is up

Don't say the road ahead is too steep

We'll cross mountains if you believe

Wake up, wake up, my friend, wake up

Put your hand on your heart before time is up

Stand as one, we will achieve

Anything is possible if you believe
