Foxconn, the technology giant that also manufactures for Apple, will move its production from Vietnam to Kağıthane through a strategic partnership with General Mobile. With this major move, Turkey will become Europe's new base for 5G and smartphone production.
Foxconn, a Taiwanese tech giant and one of Apple's largest manufacturers, is preparing to resume production in Turkey. The company plans to move its production from Vietnam to Kağıthane, Istanbul, under a strategic partnership with the local tech firm General Mobile.
İlkay Cihaner, Deputy General Manager for Strategy and Business Development at General Mobile, stated that the collaboration with Foxconn has entered a new phase, announcing that production in Vietnam will be shifted to Turkey.
KAĞITHANE TO BECOME A HUB FOR 5G AND SMARTPHONES
According to a report in the Turkish newspaper Türkiye, it has been reported that 5G products and smartphones will be manufactured at the Kağıthane facility, which has an annual production capacity of 4.5 million units. The partnership is expected to contribute to Turkey not only in terms of production processes but also in technology and knowledge transfer.
General Mobile plans to carry out a significant portion of its production for the European market in Turkey. The company aims to substantially reduce logistics times thanks to Turkey's geographical advantage.
PREPARATIONS ALSO UNDERWAY FOR THE U.S. MARKET
It has been reported that General Mobile is also conducting studies for the U.S. market. It was announced that field tests of 5G modems are ongoing as part of the collaboration with Verizon.
Among the company's goals is to make Turkey a regional center for high-tech product production targeting the European and U.S. markets.
