In Yalova, amusement park operator Ali Altınbaş was injured in an armed attack. Altınbaş, who was taken to the hospital, claimed that his brother, who had been imprisoned for 28 years for 5 separate murders, was released from prison during the pandemic due to COVID-19 measures, had been extorting money from him for 6 years, and that when he refused to pay the latest demand of 30 million Turkish Lira, his brother hired a hitman to shoot him.

A blood-chilling incident occurred on May 2nd behind the Barış Manço Open Air Theatre in Yalova. Ali Altınbaş (47), who operates the amusement park on the city's coastline, allegedly got out of his car to remove trash bins blocking the road while driving. At that moment, an individual approached him and fired 9 shots with a pistol. Altınbaş was wounded as three of the bullets hit various parts of his body, while the attacker fled on foot. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification. Altınbaş, injured in his left hand and legs, was taken to Yalova Training and Research Hospital by ambulance for treatment, while police launched an operation to capture the fleeing assailant.

"MY BROTHER HAD ME SHOT BECAUSE I DIDN'T PAY 30 MILLION TL"

Ali Altınbaş, who is continuing his treatment at the hospital, claimed that his brother M.A. (54) had been extorting money from him for some time, and after he refused to pay the latest demand of 30 million lira, he was threatened and his brother hired a hitman to shoot him. Altınbaş alleged that his brother was released from prison in 2020 due to the pandemic after serving 28 years for five separate murders and had been extorting money from him for six years. "After he got out of prison, we gave him some capital to start a business. Later, saying 'You owe me everything because I served time,' he claimed to be a tough guy and said we had to continuously give him money and pay extortion from this amusement park. We gave him money a few times. Then he tried to force us to give more and do things under pressure. Most recently, along with his prison friends, they threatened us by trying to file a case against our tender. These people are basically penniless. They have no financial means to enter the amusement park tender. Later, they demanded a certain amount of money from us. We didn't agree to it and ignored it," he said.

"HE CALLED ME UNDER THE PRETEXT OF RECONCILIATION AND PULLED A GUN"

Ali Altınbaş also claimed that his brother, who he alleged called him to his shop under the pretext of reconciliation and pulled a gun on him, had left the country a week before the attack on him. Altınbaş, who said he had previously filed a complaint due to his brother's threats, stated, "It was around the holiday. My nephews convinced us to 'come on, let's go.' We went to their shop. When the people there started insulting us, a fight broke out, and they pulled guns on us. Their intention was to trap us there too. When they failed at that, he said, 'I'm going abroad, but look, I'll have you killed from there, I'll have you shot.' Later, he had us shot. The hitmen shot us in the city center of Yalova. I don't exactly know how they escaped there. We had already reported to the security authorities multiple times that we would be shot. We said this incident was coming. But they portrayed it as a simple family matter. In reality, it was an organized attack against us. They treated it somewhat like a public order issue," he said.

"HE THREATENED TO HAVE ME AND MY RELATIVES SHOT IF I DIDN'T WITHDRAW MY COMPLAINT"

Altınbaş also stated that he was threatened to withdraw his complaint. "After we filed a complaint, he said that if we didn't withdraw it, he would have me, my nephews who work with me, my brothers, and everyone shot. For years, for 28 years, we supported him financially and morally in prison because he was our brother. When he got out, we provided him with capital, but we couldn't satisfy him no matter how much we gave. Finally, he fled abroad and said he would have us shot by certain individuals. Because he spent 28 years in prison and knows many gangs and illegal people, he had us shot by putting people on our trail. Previously, there have been incidents like having a gun confiscated and having my nephew's car set on fire. He is currently abroad, saying 'Turkey can't get me from Dubai,' threatening us with death from overseas, and as you can see, he had us shot," he said.
