MADE A MARK ON THE FOOTBALL WORLD
During his playing career, Russo played as a midfielder and managed important clubs in Argentine football during his coaching career.
The experienced coach worked with teams such as Boca Juniors, Vélez Sarsfield, Racing Club, and San Lorenzo. Russo experienced Copa Libertadores championship in 2007 during his first term at Boca Juniors. The Argentine coach had started his last role at the club on June 2, 2024.
WHAT WAS HIS ILLNESS?
Since 2017, Russo had been battling prostate and bladder cancer. Due to the progression of his illness, the Argentine coach was unable to be on the sidelines for the last two matches, and Boca was led onto the field by assistant coach Claudio Ubeda. Miguel Angel Russo had been on leave due to health issues since the end of September and was receiving special care at home.
