Following the death of Üsküdar Municipality Deputy Mayor Dündar Ziya Gültekin in a traffic accident, a new deputy mayor election is being held at Üsküdar Municipality today. Ahead of the election, it was announced that the joint candidate of the AK Party and MHP groups is Muhammed Emin Sarıoğlu.
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the allegation that irregularities were committed in construction and occupancy permit procedures at Üsküdar Municipality and that the crimes of 'bribery' and 'extortion' were committed, the municipal council convened on September 8 to elect an acting mayor in place of Üsküdar Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, who was arrested and suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior. The CHP-New Party group nominated Sibel Tan Çetinkaya, while the People's Alliance nominated Dündar Ziya Gültekin. In the 4th round, the People's Alliance candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin received 23 votes, while the CHP/New Party candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya received 19 votes. Dündar Ziya Gültekin became the acting mayor of Üsküdar Municipality.
DIED IN ACCIDENT
Üsküdar Acting Mayor Dündar Ziya Gültekin died on October 15 in a traffic accident he had while traveling to Ankara to attend the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) elections. Following Gültekin's death, the Istanbul Governor's Office had called for the Üsküdar Municipal Council to convene today at 10:00 to elect a new acting mayor. The Üsküdar Municipal Council convened today to elect the new acting mayor.
